Opened by Festival Enterprises on June 27, 1986. The Contra Costa Times reported in May of 2000 that the Contra Costa 5 was among three theatres purchased by Signature Theatres from Mann Theatres. The other two theatres were in San Ramon and Walnut Creek. In September of 2001 the Times noted that after at least 30 years the Festival 5 had closed.
Sometime in the mid-2000’s the theatre was taken over by Cinema West, who added three screens and stadium seating. By 2021 it was operated as an independent cinema. By 2022 it was operating with 8-screens.

The theater does not have ten screens. Only 8.
The Contra Costa Cinemas was opened by Festival Enterprises on June 27th, 1986 and taken over by Festival Theaters in 1987. Grand opening ad posted.
@Scott: This theater is 10 screens! 4 theaters in lobby and 6 down a hallway. Im sure they split two of the screens to make the 6. You can see photos of the hallway on Google Maps.
