Located in Lyme Regis, Dorset. This was built as a spa bath house in the early-1800’s. It became a Drill Hall in the 1880’s. It began screening films in the 1920’s and operated as the Cinema, although it had a stage, and presented occasional live shows. It has a 22 feet wide proscenium. In 1929 it was equipped with a Milhay sound system, and was re-named Marine Cinema.
During World War II it became a services canteen with ENSA and American concert parties performing on the stage, including stars such as James Cagney. The Marine Cinema was closed after the end of World War II in 1946, and was converted into the Marine Theatre to the plans of architectural firm Webb & Partners. The Marine Theatre continues to operate today.
