Manhatten Cinema.

The Central Hall Electric Theatre opened around 1911. The floor of the stalls seating area slopped upwards towards the screen, making this a relatively rare example of a reverse slope auditorium. In 1915 it was re-named Central Cinema. A Western Electric(WE) sound system was installed around 1930. In 1942 it was re-named New Central Cinema.

In 1961 it was refurbished and re-opened as the Manhattan Cinema screening art house films. The Manhattan Cinema was closed in 1966 and converted into a bingo club, which closed by the early-1990’s.

By 2008, the auditorium had been demolished and apartments built on the site. The fa├žade was cleaned and the former foyer was converted into a restaurant known as the Reef and Beef.
