The two headlines that one might see about Jackson, Mississippi and movie theaters were 1) The 2000 census showed a city of 185,260 which was said to be the largest sized U.S. city with zero movie theaters and 2) because one of its 1980s era cinemas was considered so dangerous, it used dobermans to scare the patrons into silence… which made national headlines for all the wrong reasons. And there is Strider with Josephius Pollock in the Summer of 1987 who are said to be patrolling the Jackson Mall Cinema with “75 to 90%” gang member patrons in attendance.
The manager of the cinema said that on any given night, drugs in the bathrooms, liquor in the auditorium, name calling and profanity, concession theft, and fighting were part of the nightly routine. It was practically the only activity in the greyfield mall.
