The New Alta Theatre was opened September 6, 1913. It was designed in a Mission Revival style by its owner/operator C.E. Oliphant. It was equipped with a 2 manual, 4 rank Robert Morton theatre organ in July 1926. In 1927 it was taken ober by Fox West Coast Theatres. The Alta Theatre was still operating in 1955.

The December 6, 1913, issue of The Moving Picture World said that the New Alta Theatre in Pendleton, Oregon, had opened on September 6 that year.
Fox West Coast Theatres took over the venue - and the Rivoli - from the Matlock’s in 1927 on a 15-year sublease. West Coast took the Alta into the sound era in July 2, 1929 to remain altaviable. Silva Matlock then took back the venues operating to her retirement in 1958
