Priory Cinema

Located in the west of Hull at the corner of Spring Bank W. and Calvert Lane. The Priory Cinema was opened on 13th October 1938. It had seating provided in stalls and circle levels. It had a 30 feet wide proscenium, a 14 feet deep stage and dressing rooms. There was also a café in the building and a large car park at the rear.

The Priory Cinema was closed in February 1959. It was converted into a supermarket, later operated as Kwik Save Supermarket until February 2007. The building then stood empty for over two years, and was then converted into an indoor market in February 2010. By September 2012 it had been converted into a Haus&Home furniture store. In April 2016 it became a Heron Foods supermarket.

Heron Foods opened its biggest store yet here in April 2016. This is at least the fourth supermarket to occupy the former cinema including Dee Discount, Gateway and Kwik Save.

Forgot to mention that the auditorium was seriously damaged by fire in 1973 and had to be rebuilt.
