This was the Queen’s Hall rather than the Queen’s Rooms, which were demolished for the Berwick Theatre to be built thereon. This building could not, physically, fit 1000 persons inside!

Jim, Information taken from the booklet “The Picture Palaces of Northumberland” by Brian Hornsey (published 2008) (one of the titles in ‘The Ninety Years of Cinema’ series. An Ordnance Survey map may solve the confusion.

Hi Ken. I am a local historian in Berwick and trying to work out the history of theatres in the town. What sources did you use to assertain the Queens Rooms was here? There was a Queens Buildings further down Hide Hill which I thought had hosed this venue. Prior to the existing building being built, 17-19 Hide Hill had beeen owned by a local brewery and had been the site of a pub—The Wheat Sheaf. Any info gratefully received.
