Tompkins Theatre

The Strand Theatre was listed with 1,000-seats in 1924. It was closed in 1929. By 1936 it had reopened as the 850-seat Tompkins Theatre. Seated 800 according to the Film Daily Yearbook of 1941. It was closed on March 28, 1963 with Kirk Douglas in “The Hook” & Rod Taylor in “Seven Seas to Calais”.

It was demolished in April 1963 and the Bancorp Plaza now stands on the site.

The Tompkins was closed by the Cooper Foundation at the end of its lease on March 28, 1963 with “The Hook” and “Seven Seas to Calais.” In April of 1963, the building was demolished and plans revealed for a new banking building and neighboring theater which was the Cooper.
