Electric Palace

Located in Creswell, to the southwest of Worksop, Nottinghamshire. The Electric Palace was opened by Mr. J.R. Rogers in August 1910. It had a 24ft wide proscenium, the stage was 14ft deep and there were three dressing rooms to be used by artistes who appeared in stage presentations as part of the film programme. It was equipped with a Regent sound system.

The Electric Palace was destroyed by fire in the early hours of the morning of 29th July, 1938. The film being presented that week was Jeanette McDonald in “The Firefly”. A house now stands on the site.

Mr Rogers immediately began work to build the Regors Cinema on Station Road which opened on 26th June 1939 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
