Nearby Theaters
Located on the south side of W. Main Street near the corner of Church Street. The Peerless Theatre was opened on August 21, 1914 and was listed in the American Motion Picture Directory. By 1926 it was listed with 205 seats. On February 7, 1936 it was renamed Cuba Theatre after being taken over by Martina Circuit, and the seating capacity had increased to 300. The Martina Circuit still operated it in 1957 when it had 315 seats. The building still stands, but its current use is unknown.

I notice the above ad says “Opera House” in the bottom corner. Could the Peerless / Cuba Theatre have been the same as the Palmer Opera House in Cuba on West Main Street which is currently undergoing renovation?

Nope. Further research shows that the current Palmer Opera House was not the Peerless Theatre. The Peerless was opened by Wesley Gross on August 21, 1914 on Main Street, next to his meat business.
This one reopened as the Cuba Theatre on February 7, 1936. The opening movie was “In Old Kentucky” with Will Rogers.
The Palmer Opera House is not the former Cuba Theatre which was the Peerless.
Went through Cuba today. Mural on a brick wall depicts the theatre that once appeared on Main Street with its marquee.
