Scala Cinema Dawlish

Located in Dawlish, Devon. The Scala Cinema was opened around 1930. It was equipped with a Mihaly sound system. It had a 26 feet wide proscenium and an 18 feet deep stage. There were four dressing rooms.

By 1944 it was operated by Mayfair Circuit (Control) Ltd. and had been equipped with a British Thomson-Houston (BTH) sound system. Later it was independently operated and was closed around 1960. By 2024 the front of the building named Scala House is used as a Co-Op Funeral Directors and the auditorium is the town library.

The building is still extant, it hasn’t been demolished. It is now called Scala House, and is next to the library. The address was Lawn Terrace, The Strand, which extended up towards Albert Street, but has been ‘lost/unused’ as an address over the years.
