The Savoy Theatre opened around 1909. It was taken over by Gus Kerasotes on Debruary 16, 1913. The Savoy Theatre is listed in the 1928 Film Daily Yearbook with 200 seats. It was closed as a silent movie theatre on February 24, 1930 with Ken Maynard in “Senor Americano”.

Th Savoy was one of eight movie theaters listed at Springfield in the 1914-1915 American Motion Picture Directory.

I would contend there were as many as 15 theatres (plus a couple entertainment halls) during the 1914-1915 period. 1915 was a big year of expansion as new theatres were opened outside the downtown area with locations on North Grand, South Grand and East 15th Street.

Concessionaire Gus Kerasotes began his cinematic career on the Royal in 1909 and acquired the four-year old Savoy on February 16, 1913. The Savoy closed unable to convert to sound after the February 24, 1930 with Ken Maynard in “Seňor Americano.” Kerasotes had already moved on to better theaters at that point.
