Located in Southborough, near Tunbridge Wells, Kent. The Royal Victoria Hall Theatre was the first municipally-owned live theatre in the country, and was built to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. It was built in 1900 and designed as a chapel-like building by architect William Harmer. It had a decorative cast iron canopy, which was removed in a modernisation programme in the late-1970’s. Seating inside the auditorium is provided for 178 in stalls and 90 in the circle. The stage is 25 feet deep.
The Royal Victoria Hall Theatre was used a silent cinema in the 1920’s. It then reverted back to live theatre use. In 2013, the local council earmarked the building for redevelopment. It was closed on 5th January 2015 and demolished in 2017.
