Galaxy Theatres opened this 10-screen theatre in the Colony Square center on March 9, 2011 with the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival.

The theatre has two VIP auditoriums with rocker chairs for the over-21 crowd where beer and wine can be enjoyed.

The San Luis Obispo Tribune noted that the city had been without a theatre since 2006 when the Century Cinemas 6 closed.

On June 23, 2022 it was taken over by Sanborn Theatres-The Movie Experience and renamed Colony Theatre.
