The Lee Theatre was opened on August 27, 1941 with Edward G. Robinson in “Manhood”. It had seating for 600. It was operated by Robert Blatchly, who in 1955 opened the City Drive-In. The Lee Theatre was still operating as an independent theatre in August 1963. The Lee Theatre was closed on January 28, 1969 with Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton in “Doctor Faustus”.

The Lee was architected by Frank Bail with an initial budget of $52,000 and was built for the Cojac Theatre Circuit that was a subsidiary of Warner Brothers in the pre-Paramount decision years. Construction began on Feb. 3, 1941.
Closed on January 28, 1969 with “Doctor Faustus” as its last film.
The Lee Theatre was opened by Cojac Theatres (a company with deep ties to Warner Bros. and was the type of relationship that led to the Paramount decree in the early 1950s). Opening film was Warner Bros.‘ Manhood with Edward G. Robinson on August 27, 1941. Frank Bail’s streamlined moderne architectural sketch of the new Lee is in photos. The venue was named after property owner Joe Lee and was built by Wheeler Brothers Contracting.
