Located in the Memorial City Mall. This was a 70mm-capable theatre which often screened exclusive first-run movies. It opened on June 23, 1966 with Steve McQueen in “Nevada Smith”. It was a Stanley-Warner theatre. It became a Texas Southeast theatre in 1969, was sold to Tercar Theaters in 1976, and finally to Cineplex Theaters (now called Cinemark) in 1982.

In its later years under Tercar, the auditorium was split into two theaters, and the balcony was closed. The Memorial Theater was closed in 1984 and was converted into retail space.

Quite a place, but was out of sync with the times on the day it opened. Mall theatres were not the places to support exclusive runs. Very strange “hidden” rooms throughout. But, it was fun training as a manager there in 1981.

Owned by Cineplex of Texas, not of Canada.

Loved this theater, saw many movies there in the late 70s/early 80s.
