The Trans-Lux In-Flight Cinema was opened June 12, 1970 with Jason Robards in “The Ballard of Cable Hogue”. It was operated by Brandt Theatres. By 1976 it had become an adult theatre known as Cinema Blue. In 1979 it became Royal Cine. This was an adult theatre that played both movies and had live stage presentations. The theatre closed in as the High Point Road Cinema around 1990.

This was most likely the location of the Trans-Lux Inflight Cine' in Greensboro rather than the location given for the “Greensboro Theater”. The location listed on the Greensboro Theater page is actually that of the Sedgefield Crossing $2 Cinema, which is the only theater ever built at that address. Also, Trans-Lux built all of its North Carolina Inflight Cine’s adjacent to Zayre stores (except Kinston; no Zayre there, Trans-Lux built next to Woolco in that town). The Royal Cine location was still operating as a theater as late as 1990, but under a different name and no longer porn. Newspaper ads from 1989-90 mentioned a discount cinema at High Point and Holden Roads “near Ames” (Ames had bought out Zayre at this time); most likely the Trans-Lux Inflight/Greensboro Theater is the same cinema as the Royal Cine.

The name of this theater in the 1989-90 ads was “High Point Road Cinema”, which was most likely the final name of this theater.

This theater has been demolished. A Walgreens and other speciality stores now sits where the movie theater once was.

A few corrections:

The current address is now 3723 Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro, NC. They changed the name of the street a couple of years ago.

The actual location of the theater is now a beauty supply store. If you look at this image (https://goo.gl/maps/nAzGLmg4NYt), you can see the traditional “theater” look with the front area used for sales and the house being the raised area right behind it.
