Arcade Theater

The first Arcade Theater was built in 1913 and was located about a block away from this address on the northeast corner of East Main Street and Sixth Street. Around 1924 that Arcade Theater closed and this Arcade Theater opened at the address above. The Arcade Theater operated into the late-1950’s or early-1960’s.

After the theater closed, the building was converted to retail use and was occupied by a Western Auto store. In the 1960’s, the top floor of the building was damaged by fire. In order to save the building from being completely demolished, the second story of the building was removed to make the building safe. The former theater is currently used as a video rental store.

There is another Arcade Theater currently located across the street from this building at 513 East Main Street which is a live performance theater. As far as I know, that Arcade Theater was never a movie theater and it has no relationship to this Arcade Theater other than sharing the same name.
