When the Colonial Theatre reopened on May 30, 1926, following a remodeling carried out by its new operators, the Midland Theatre circuit, it hosted the world premier of the Paramount feature Good and Naughty, starring Pola Negri. The event was reported in the June 5 issue of The Reel Journal.

A non-theatre related question…..Is the name Crowell still a prominent name in Pittsburg Kansas? The reason I ask is there was a famous murder mystery non-fiction book written by Dominick Dunne entitled The Two Mrs. Grenviles that was based on the real name of Woodward and the famous murder surrounding that name in the 50’s. Mrs. Woodward’s former name was Crowell and she came from humble rural beginnings in Pittsburg Kansas. If someone wishes to expand on this, please email me at

I have lived here in Pittsburg a little over a year.
Since I have been here I have been dreaming of how wonderful it would be to open up this theatre!

I am of course disturbed on how such once a beautiful booming theatre can just sit here.

This downtown could really benifit from something up and running such as this.

Maybe it would attract some dazzle, and more people to care about the downtown area and start getting some thoughts and ideas
to new store fronts.

Is there any plan to reopen this theatre at all? and when?

Please let me know any info.you might have on this theatre!

Thank You,
