Deer Park Movie Theatre

A mid-sized neighborhood theatre located in a shopping center at the intersection of Deer Park Avenue and Bay Shore Road. It was opened July 30, 1959 with “South Pacific”, and closed around September 1984.

Although the facade of the shopping center has been refinished, the upper portion of the theatre is visible from a distance. The space is now home to Mama Sbarro’s.

Despite the new facade added to the shopping center the top of the theater is visible from a distance. When you go around the back it’s very obvious since the theater was longer than the other stores are deep.

Added a current photo. Roof line (with a man on top) barely visible.

Thank you to whoever added that photo ! I was only here twice in my life: 1) Saw “Ben” sequel to “Willard” in 1972. 2) YEARS later, saw a “midnight movie” screening of “Dawn of the Dead” in the very early 1980s . Was this a UA theater? UA had a thing called “Midnight Madness” circa 1980-1982: showed Pink Floyd The Wall, Dawn of the Dead, Kids Are Alright, etc. This theater reminded me of the Mayfair in Commack — a big square box. Love the sign with the orange plastic and “Deer Park” in script neon !

Bloop never a UA. Always AIT (Associated Independent Theaters). The signage for the AIT Hauppauge had the same coloration.
