News About This Theater

Nighttime shot of the building and neon vertical sign!

The 25th Street Theatre was opened on November 29, 1945 with Van Johnson in “Thrill of a Romance”. It served as a single screen theatre until it closure on July 4, 1982.

It was renovated and reopened in 1986 as a nightclub name Premier Dance Club, and closed again in 1992.

It then stood vacant and I believe condemned. “If anyone has any old photos of this theatre or has any plans for it let me know. It’s a treasure that shouldn’t be forgotten.” The auditorium was demolished in October 2019 to build a firehouse and parking space. The front and foyer of the building have been retained and restored, now in use by the fire department administration.

Unfortunately, the City OF Waco has purchased the 25th Street Theatre and the entire block, and will be using the space for a new fire station. It is unknown as to whether or not the theatre building will be incorporated into the plans.

Drove by today (Aug 11 2019) & this structure still stands. The 25th St Theatre part of the marquee has been removed. Safety reasons I’m guessing. In such sad shape.. RAC Photography †

Visited this week (June 2022) and found that the building still resembles the old theater and retains the vertical blade, but now reads “25th Street STATION” as befits its current role as part of Waco Fire Department.
