Columbus, GA: AMC Classic Peachtree 8 Closed [Dec 6, 2023]
Rebuilt and reopened on December 9th, 1993, as one of 16 all-THX certified multiplex in the world. Grand opening ad posted.
The old Peachtree twin opened on June 5th, 1975 and a 3rd screen opening on January 12th, 1979 and closed in 1993. A new 8-plex opened in 1993.
Nice Looking Outside of the Theatre.
AMC is doing that to all the second run theatres they got from Carmike. Its too bad second run theatres are almost extinct.
The theater is also no longer second run (but the admission prices are lower to the other theaters in town).
I go there a lot orginal theaters are still apart of the building that’s what I like about it.
I understand that the theatre isn’t part of the mall. But the current building doesn’t appear on historic arial maps until 2004 images. Prior to that the space where the current building stands is an empty field. That’s why I suspect the 1975 building is not part of the current complex, and actually stood somewhat west of the current building.
It’s not part of the mall its behind the mall. It closed in 95 to be redone as 8 screens. The 3 orginal theaters are still alarm of it. Go there alot
Judging by Historic Aerials, the current 8-screen building (and the easern part of the mall) did not exist at the time of their 1993 photo. I would say that the current 8-screen building is entirely new and not any part of the original 2/3 screen configuration.
It got converted to 3 screens in the 80’s.93 it closed to get 8 screens
Now AMC Classic Peachtree 8.
Went in it a while back it’s been re done but theatre is like stepping back in time I liked it some say it needs to be updated its but I like it it’s where I saw friday the 13th part 6.
It was first called peachtree twin back in 1975 until 93 when carmike bought it, trying to find some pics
It was first only 3 screens when it first opened in 93 got more screens added it’s now the discount theater
