The San Luis Obispo Telegram-Tribune reported in December of 1968 that the 364-seat Madonna Plaza Theatre would open the following January 24, 1969. The owner was John Klee, a 38-Year veteran of Fox West Coast Theatres, who was Pacific West Coast manager when he retired. Mr. Klee said his theater would cater to the college crowd therefore he was looking for a young manager who would have rapport with them.
In 1987 two more screens were added and in November of 1988 the Madonna Plaza 3 became listed under Edwards Cinemas in the Los Angeles Times.
On August 24, 2000 the Orange County Register published a list of closed Edwards Cinema’s. The Madonna 3 had closed on May 5. The Tribune says that the theatre was demolished in 2001 along with the other buildings in the aging Plaza.
