Astor Theatre

Located at the intersection of Broadway and 77th Street. The Broadway Theatre was opened prior to 1944. It is said when the original organ was damaged, it was replaced by the Robert Morton theatre organ that had been installed in the Embassy Theatre, North Bergen before it was demolished. It was later renamed Astor Theatre.

In January 1964, the former Astor Theatre became the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel and school.

Here is a photo of part of the marquee of the Astor Theatre advertising the 1944 Bing Crosby movie Going My Way.

My dad worked at the Astor in the 1940s. That was where he met my mom, who was a cashier at the candy counter.
