The Starlite Drive-In opened on April 17, 1954 with Wayne Morris in “The Younger Brothers” and a movie about the Calgary Stampede. It was located on Victoria Avenue, about one mile east of Broad Street.
Famous Players took over the drive-in in 1965. The Starlite Drive-In was closed on October 10, 1981 with a dusk-to-dawn marathon of the movies “Paternity”, “Urban Cowboy”, “Survive”, “The Warriors” and “Sunburn”. The drive-in site has since been redeveloped.

Apparently late news from Billboard, June 26, 1954: “Three Regina, Sask., businessmen, T. Berenbaum Sr., I. Berenbaum Sr. and Max Lifshitz have opened the city’s newest drive-in, the Starlite. Theater covers 20 acres and accommodates 750 cars.”
Also in the same issue: “New government regulations for theaters in Saskatchewan include a provision against drive-ins being built within two miles of each other.”
More regulations highlighted in the Oct. 9, 1954 Billboard: “Screen towers of new drive-in theaters in Saskatchewan must be designed by a registered engineer and must be built to withstand wind velocity of 25 pounds pressure per square foot, according to a recently announced ruling under the Theaters and Cinematographs Act. All new drive-ins must also provide individual speakers for each vehicle and a suitable fence must be provided to prevent spread of paper and other refuse to adjacent properties.”
