Choctaw Drive-In

The Choctaw Drive-In was opened on September 23, 1951 with James Cagney in “White Heat”. It was operated by Glen D. Thompson of Thompson Theatre Circuit, Oklahoma City. Beside the drive-in was the Sooner 69 truck stop and motel.

It was closed sometime in the 1970’s and was demolished by 1981. Today a private residence stands on the site of the drive-in.

A closer address is HWY 75 and Shady Lane, Atoka, OK. Today, Kenco MFG sits on the property with no trace of the drive-in remaining. http://tinyurl.com/kb96ygw

Why was it called Choctaw?

It is in the Choctaw territory, so that’s probably why.

Is that a native American tribe?

A more accurate address for this theater is 2695 South Mississippi Atoka, OK, 74525. This is the address for Kenco and points directly to the drive in.

Please update.

The address provided by jwmovies is too far south as seen on Google Maps.

A more accurate address is S Mississippi Ave & Shady Ln, Atoka, OK 74525. Kenco is on the NW side of the intersection.

The problem is that the address listed for Kenco is not properly recognized by Google Maps. As is often the case with addresses well outside a city or town, crossroads tend to be far more accurate on Google Maps if the site is near such an intersection.

This appears to be closed in the 1970s. A 1981 aerial shows the theater demolished and replaced by a storage facility that was now known as Kenco Mfg.

A slightly closer address is 3387 S Mississippi Ave, Atoka, OK.

Google Maps has updated their addresses and this one places it right on top of the Kenco Mfg building which is right in the middle of where the drive-in once stood.
