Aurora Theatre

The Aurora Theatre opened in 1911 at the corner of N. Third Street and W. Chambers Street. It had a nine-year lifespan as a film showplace before closing in 1920; the theatre building was later adapted for office use. The architect, John Roth, Junior, also designed the Grand Theatre on North Holton Street, which opened the same year as the Aurora Theatre.

This one hasn’t been demolished…yet. The street name has changed to N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but the address is still 3002. It doesn’t look like a theater anymore, but the triple-stripe-with-crossbar decorations remain on the second floor, recognizable from older photos of the Aurora.
