Located in the centre of Brighton, in the historic Lanes district. The Dukes at Komedia was opened on 6th December 2012 with “Life of Pi”. It has 2-screens which have seating for 149, 110 (there was a 32-seat third screen planned but this was converted into a cafĂ©). Located upstairs in the famous Komedia comedy club, which has been successfully used over the years by the Brighton Festival. The Dukes at Komedia is operated by the Picturehouse chain, who also operate the historic Duke of York’s Cinema in Brighton. The famous ‘legs’ which adorn the facade of Duke of York’s Cinema have been replicated on the front of the Dukes at Komedia.

Despite the date in the camera data, these photographs were taken in June 2013.
Correction to the info above the cinema has 2 screens not 3. The area planned for the third screen is a cafe/bar.
This building was originally a supermarket and then a collection of market stalls.
The legs on the Duke of York’s were originally on another building in Oxford, but the legs on the Komedia were specially made for the new cinema. The red shoes are a reference to Dorothy’s ruby slippers.
One of the benefits of being a Picturehouse member is getting a discount at Gourmet Burger, like the one next door.
