The Albert Hall was opened on 20th May 1912 with “Christopher Columbus”. The cinema was hidden from the street, and the entrance was through an archway that had heavy ornamental iron gates. It was used for film and live performances. In 1917, it was presenting variety performances only, and this use lasted until May 1932, with only the occasional film performance during those years.
The Albert Hall was equipped with a British Thomson Houston(BTH) sound system and was renovated and re-opened as a cinema on 5th September 1932 with Gene Gerrard in “My Wifes Family.
The building was sold to the Stafford and Stone Co-Operative Society in April 1952, and was closed on 19th April 1952 with Bill Williams in “Blue Grass of Kentucky” and Leo Gorcey and the Bowery Boys in “Bowery Battalion”. The building was incorporated into a store.
