This was the first Royal Theatre on S. Main Street.
The photo is from a book titled “Night in Memphis”, published in 1911. The theatre has been verified at this address in the 1912 Memphis Directory. 101 S. Main is also listed as the address for The Royal Amusement Company which operated the Royal Theatre. The Houck Piano Co. in the photo is next door to the theatre. It is located at 103 S. Main Street, and was also verified in the 1912 Directory. The M. L. Levin barber shop across the street has also been verified at 110 S. Main Street.
The Royal Theatre is listed in the 1909-10 directories at 269 N. Main. Listed in 1911-12 at 101 S. Main Street. Listed in 1913 at 974 Peach Avenue.
