Hollywood Theatre

Opened in 1922 with a seating capacity of 1,000, the former Hollywood Theatre stood under the elevated subway tracks on New Utretcht Avenue in Bensonhurst.

The Hollywood Theatre was closed on June 4, 1951, and the building became a catering hall for weddings, bar mitzvahs and other functions. Now it later a strictly kosher hall.

The building stands less than 10 blocks away from the old Loew’s Oriental Theatre. By 2015 it had been converted into Social Security Offices.

The Hollywood Theatre is located at the northeast corner of New Utrecht Avenue and 78th Street in Brooklyn, NY.

My grandmother’s house was around the corner from it since 1941.

For many decades until about 1999 it was The Hollywood Terrace catering hall. It retained its elegance till the end with it’s stylish glass entry doors, beautiful lobby, and plush carpeting.
