Located in Colchester, Essex, on Mersea Road at the junction of St. Botolph’s Street. The Vaudeville Electric Theatre was opened as a cinema in November 1911, and was the first purpose built cinema in the town. It had a 24 feet wide proscenium

It was taken over by the Biocolour Circuit in July 1926 and was re-named Empire Cinema in August 1926. Biocolour were taken over by the Gaumont British Theatres chain in March 1927.

It was taken over by the Agar circuit around 1939. By 1955, it was under independent management and was closed in May 1959.

The building became a furniture warehouse, and was demolished in November 1971 to make way for the St. Botolph’s Circus roundabout.
