The AMC Norwalk 20, a 4,500-seat theater, was first announced in the Los Angeles Times on May 4, 1995. Considering the lease terms, expectations were high for this Norwalk Redevelopment Agency project. The Los Angeles Times said that AMC was paying the city of Norwalk $27,000 a year for 60 years just for the lease of the property. The actual cost of the 80,000 square-foot building wasn’t mentioned.

For a few years after opening it consistently placed among the top 10 theaters nationally for film grosses according to an AMC representative quoted in the Long Beach Press-Telegram. The total seating capacity has been reduced to 1,756-seats due to the installation of recliners seats around 2014.

For many years, the Norwalk 20 was also AMC’s leader in hot dog sales. The theatre sold such an unusually high number of hot dogs that Oscar Meyer (AMC’s supplier) even sent out a couple of researchers to pinpoint the reason. I recall one of the researchers standing in various areas taking readings with some gadget that allegedly registered smells (I never heard what sort of conclusion they came up with).
