This movie theater, named after Mexican singer of the 40’s Jorge Negrete, was at #207, it was long and narrow. I saw the Argentinean film “El diablo andaba en los choclos” with Luis Sandrini there, and we were shocked it was the first time we’d heard the word “porquería” in a movie.
Guarina - A common misconception is that the theater was named after Jorge Negrete. It was named for the Negretes family, who owned the cinema. They were first generation Cubans whose father was born in Spain. (Not Mexican, but they were big fans of Jorge Negrete - like everyone was!) Thank you for sharing this lovely memory!
