Located in the centre of Rotterdam. The Scala Cinema was the third cinema to operate with that name in the city. This one replaced the second Scala which was destroyed by bombing in World War II. It was opened on 12th December 1957 with Charlie Chaplin in “A King in New York”. Seating was provided in the single screen for 1,500.
It was converted into a Cinerama Theater, and opened on 14th July 1960 with “This Is Cinerama”. The seating capacity was reduced to 900 seats. Following a string of successful 3-strip Cinerama films, the Cinerama Theater was screening 70mm films from 1972.
In recent years it has been converted into a 5-screen cinema, and in 2004, became a 7-screen cinema. Seating is provided for 291, 123, 123, 130, 145, 145 and 103.

There are some pictures of the theater’s outer lobby here as well as information about theater’s run as a Cinerama house. Apparently, this was the last theater in the world with regular Cinerama showings (final showing 10/25/72) until the Pictureville installation in Bradford, England in June of 1993.
Since 2014 part of the Kinepolis Group from Belgium, that took over the complete Wolff theatres group!
