Stanton Theatre

Built in 1913, in December 1917 the Stanton Theatre became part of the Moore Circuit. It was taken over by the Roth Theatres chain in 1949. It became an ‘art theatre from 1956 and this continued until its closure in 1964. It was demolished in 2013, and housing was built on the site.

(The August 29, 1957 lists the “New” Stanton Theatre at a new location, 18th Street NE (same “upscale or art” style advertisement) in the former Jesse Theatre.)

I went through this area around 2007. The structure was so ugly and undistinguished that I don’t think I’d have bothered with it even if I’d known what it was. It must have been remodeled sometime 1949 or later, and was a very severe box with very little flair. Looks like it was converted to offices after closure.
