The portico before this movie theater ran the length of the whole block between Enamorados and Santos Suárez streets. I remember seeing “Song of the South” there with James Baskett as a child, “Gone with the Wind” with Vivien Leigh, “Wuthering Heights” with Merle Oberon and in the noisy Sunday matinees, episodes. They had three showings on Sunday, the matinee about 1:00, the “tanda” with a double feature at about 4:00 and the “evening” at about 7:00. You could go in at 1:00 for 25¢ and stay for 6 hours, even 9. It showed “Locura de Amor” with Aurora Bautista and Fernando Rey, which I didn’t see because it was banned for minors.
I read yesterday that this theater had air conditioning back in the days, and that they sold popcorn in the lobby; I don’t recall either thing.
