Curzon Cinema

i have been looking through the Hull Daily Mail to see when the Princes became the Curzon. After the Tivoli closed in 1954, Hull was left without a specialist continental cinema. ON 12th December 1954, the Princes showed “The World condemns them” from Sunday for four days. Beginning 9th January 1955 it began showing continental films weekly for four days with mainstream films continuing for the other three days. In December 1955 the Princes closed for a week for redecoration and reseating and it reopened as the Curzon on Monday 26th December 1955 with “La P… Respectuouse”. This ran for six days although subsequently it continued with the Princes policy of showing continental films for four days and mainstream films for the other three. However before long it began showing the continental films for a full seven days while the British and Hollywood films largely faded away.
