Casino Cinema

Located in the Townhead district in the east of Glasgow city centre. The Casino Cinema was opened on 23rd October 1911. It was built for A.E. Pickard. Seating was provided in stalls and circle levels, and there were boxes located at the rear.

From the 1920’s, it was operated by A.B. King. Around 1929 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. It remained a popular cinema, despite the opening of the Carlton Picture House directly across the road in January 1926.

The Casino Cinema was closed on 17th February 1965, and was converted into a bingo club. This was not a success, and was closed in 1968. The Casino Cinema building was demolished in 1973.
