Vacant lot on north side of Main St., where the Pal Theatre was located.

Located on the north side of Main Street on the second lot east of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The Pal Theatre in downtown Hinesville was opened by 1950 and it was still around when I was stationed at Fort Stewart in 1965. According to a gentleman who was raised in Hinesville and who actually worked as a projectionist at both the Pal Theatre and the Stewart Drive-In theatre, both theatres were owned by a Mr. Brice’s Pal Amusement Co. of Vidalia, GA, who also owned a number of Pal Theatres throughout the Southeast. Mr. Brice also owned a bank in Vidalia, GA. The gentleman who gave me the information also told me that in its later years, the Hinesville Pal Theatre was closed during most of the year, but opened during the summer months when the National Guard units would come to Fort Stewart for their annual training.

There is a second photo (photo link above), showing a distant view of the theatre among the downtown buildings in the 1960s.
