This miniplex in the regional city Nitra was opened on 2nd December, 2006. It was the fourth CineMAX theatre to open after investments in Trnava, Trencin and Poprad. It is one of eight CineMAX cinemas, which is located in MAX shopping centers. The other two are located in shopping centers of other brands (CineMAX Banska Bystrica – Europa Shopping Center and CineMAX Kosice – Shopping Center Optima).
According to the Czech and Slovak online reservation system Disdata, CineMAX Nitra has a total capacity of 655 seats. The two larger of four air-conditioned halls have a capacity of 272 and 183 seats. the smaller auditoriums have 104 and 96 seats.
As of June 2011 the miniplex was completely digitized. Used digital video technologies were Christie projectors (CP2000 ZX and CP2210), Doremi cinema servers (DCP 2000 and DCP2K4) and an XpanD-3D-system. The supplier of sound technologies was Dolby Labs (Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Surround). The cinema digitalization was paid by CineMAX itself as the Slovak Audiovisual Fund refused to support an application to digitalize the second largest screen (Screen B).
MAX Nitra is one of those shopping centers of the brand, which has in addition to the theatre a cinema café, operated by the cinema operator. The café is located directly next to the theatre and the box office. Other CineMAX cinema cafés are located in MAX shopping centers in Dunajska Streda, Skalica, Trnava and Zilina.
The MAX mall in Nitra was one of the first shopping malls opened in the town. However, the situation has changed since its opening six years ago. Now it is suffering from the more modern competition. Therefore, it is gradually turning into an entertainment center, with two children playgrounds, four bowling alleys and a casino.
Latest official data from 2010 say that CineMAX Nitra screened 4,537 showings, was attended by 236,059 spectators. The average attendance of one screening has reached more than 53 spectators, which is one of the best results among the multi-screen cinemas in the Slovak Republic. Among other factors, this is due to the low cinema competition in the town.
With good results of the theatre, it can be deduced that the city has a good potential for a further cinema, as already there is a another miniplex planned. The shopping center project is called CityPark and is situated below the medieval castle at the river Nitra. Due to financial problems of the developer, the project is suspended and the uncompleted building mars the environment under the castle. With a four screen miniplex with a possible completion, the competition is concerned about an investment in Nitra.
However, the cinema attendance can be jeopardized by two cinema projects in the neighboring district Levice. This will reset the demand from this district. A three-screen theater Ster Century Cinemas Levice should open in 2013 as a part of the planed shopping center Onyx 2. Another cinema project is designed in the Europa Shopping Center project. It should have two screens. However, it seems only one project will be realized, the one which will have the shopping center built first.

2014 CineMAX Nitra Theater update
Without announcing any technical details, the CineMAX chain replaced the 3D system in its Nitra site on 5th December 2013. According to the report, which was published at http://cine-max.sk/590/akcie/novy-3d-system-v-cinemax-nitra, besides the system ticket prices also changed. A 3D-standard ticket price declined from 7.30 euros to the current 6.80 euros (about $ 9.20). The visitor, however, will need to purchase passive 3D glasses for 1 euro (about $ 1.35 in December 2013). 3D-projection technology thus changed from active to passive. It seems like CineMAX plans to change 3D systems step by step in all its sites across Slovak Republic.
According to the operations manager of the theater, CineMAX installed a MasterImage MI-WAVE3D 3D-system, which uses an automated liquid crystal polarization modulator. This change can make a big transition from active to passive 3D-system, when in Slovakia now Dolby 3D and XpanD are dominating. They both use active glasses. The Korean company MasterImage now controls the most lucrative market of the capital city Bratislava, when cooperating with the Cinema City chain in its sites AuPark, Eurovea and Polus City Center.
Other news on the theater include that a competitive cinema in the shopping center Mlyny will open within the next two years. It should have five screens and will be a part of the mall extension. Initially a ten-store office tower had to be built there. The opening of a competitive theater will be a difficult challenge for CineMAX Nitra, whereas in the Mlyny shopping center anchor tenants (like Hennes & Mauritz, Marks & Spencer, Lindex or Mango) are concentrated and therefore it is popular among buyers. According to the current stores map of the shopping center MAX Nitra, it lost more tenants and some others (like children playgrounds, bowling alleys and the movie theater) pay little or no rent.
Aforementioned shopping center City Park is still not built and its chances to be completed are declining. Also Ster Century Cinema wasn’t neither opened, nor did the shopping center Onyx2 start its development.
