The Sunset Drive-In was opened on October 4, 1950 with Donald O'Connor in “Curtain Call at Cactus Creek”. It was operated by Joe J. Nickolick & C.A. Moore. It was closed on October 2, 1983 before succumbing to a small strip mall named Sunset Plaza. The sign was moved to Winslow, Ind for another drive-in effort which was unsuccessful.

Boxoffice, April 26, 1952: “The Mount Vernon Drive-In on Road 62 has reopened for the season under the management of new owners John and Stephen Miles and Mary and Joe Nickelick. They also own and operate the Sunset Drive-In on Highway 41 north of Evansville."
The screen was once damaged by a fire on the evening of March 10, 1983, but was reconstructed just in time for the start of that year’s season. It was later confirmed that 1983 is the Sunset’s final year, closing on October 2, 1983.
