Embassy Cinema Fareham

Original photograph taken prior to opening 19th April 1938. The Architect David Nye worked for Shipman & King during 1936 - 1938 building six new cinemas for this circuit, all interiors were designed by Mollo & Egan. Here the imposing front of brick with stone fins and portholes was an enhancement to this market town. Above the canopy the large Embassy name painted red was lit at night with mauve neon as were the three fins that extended the height of the building. The shop units built either side, were let for many years to the same occupant’s the left side Ronald Wilson Jewellers, to the right Madame Clare’s chocolatiers, later Coopers tobacconists & confections.
