Located in Fareham, Hampshire, north of Portsmouth. Built on the site of the Alexandra Cinema. The Embassy Cinema was built by the Shipman & King circuit and opened on 19th April 1938 with George Arlis in “Dr, Syn”. The narrow brick façade had three vertical concrete fins which were flanked by three circular porthole windows. Inside the auditorium seating was provided in stalls and circle levels, and the plaster designs on the interior were by interior decorators Mollo & Egan.
It was closed by EMI on 27th August 1983 with “Superman III”, the reason given was the high cost of rewiring and repairs. It was demolished in 1984 and a MacDonald’s restaurant was built on the site.

It is always a pity when a rather grand building is demolished and replaced by a rather mundane one.
The 1984 building is still there with MacDonald’s still occupying one side of it and a coffee shop on the other.
Architect was R. A. Thomas
