Odeon Randwick

Built on the site of a Victorian mansion and opened as the Kismet Cinema in the early-1920’s. It was later taken over by the Greater Union Theatres chain and the interior was extensively re-modeled in a Streamline Moderne style.

The final film screened was the Bo Derek, Dudley Moore comedy “10” when the theatre closed on 6th June June 1980.

I saw 2001 here when it did a rerun in about 1979. Good times :)

I remember great times there. Was a regular with the family when a new movie came there.

Wile I was working in G.U"s eng dpt the twin bros [one of whom died soon before]the installation of a full kit of referbed Kalee projectors & lamphouses around 1976 I was asked to do one shift per week as operator, a one man operation with no automation it was improvision all the way with bits of cardboard,lenghts of string on swithes,dousers& knife switches etc.The films I recall running was a montyPython double .
