Auto-Cine

The Auto-Cine was opened in 1953, and was the first drive-in theatre to be built and opened in Latin America. It was located in the centre of Panama City, between the commercial centre and the residential sector, opposite the newly constructed University of Panama.

The construction of the drive-in was assisted by Ezell & Associates of Dallas, Texas, who provided the original layout plans by Albert Lopez. The Auto-Cine had a large snack bar building, which served beers as well as soft drinks and hot dog style food. This building also contained the projection booth, and outside was a patio with 60 seats. There was a large playground for children. The screen tower was constructed with concrete blocks, supported by concrete columns.
