Located in the southern Birmingham district of King’s Heath. The Maypole Cinema was opened on 1st August 1937 with George Formby in “Keep Your Seats Please”. It was booked by Cinema Accessories Ltd., part of the Clifton Cinemas chain.
The rather wide building had a brick facade, with the name ‘Maypole’ across the top, and a white stone centrally placed entrance which extended slightly forward of the main facade. Inside the auditorium seating was provided for 738 in the stalls and 377 in the circle. The proscenium was 46 feet wide.
The Maypole Cinema was closed on 26th January 1961 with Michael Rennie in “The Lost World”. It was demolished and shops were built on the site.
