Boulevard Theater

Reopened by Metropolitan Theatres as Teatro Boulevard on December 23rd, 1979 with “Tarjeta Verde” and “Obsesion”. Grand opening ad posted.

There was a film horror film during this period called"Eaten alive" directed by Tobe Hooper and also when a stranger calls. by the director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Google this title hope it helps out to remember. I remember seeing there. 1978 at this theater.

The 1924 release In Every Woman’s Life is advertised on the marquee of the Red Mill Theatre in this Frank Meline photo from the USC Digital Archive. The name Red Mill does not appear on the marquee or anywhere else on the building that I can see, but there is a big windmill on the roof of the auditorium. The theater was built in 1922, so was fairly new when this photo was taken.

The 1926 Los Angeles City Directory lists the Red Mill Theatre at 4549 Whittier Boulevard. A comment by kenmc made on November 5, 2007, says that there is a 1930 listing in the Los Angeles Times for the Red Mill Theatre at the same address. The Los Angeles County Assessor’s office says that the building at this location was built in 1922, with an effectively-built date of 1928. The Boulevard is apparently older than we thought.

I didn’t find a theater listed at this address in the 1923 City Directory, and no theater is listed for it in the 1932 directory, but the 1929 directory lists the Red Mill Theatre at 4551 Whittier. The 1936 directory lists the Boulevard Theatre at 4549.

Does anyone remember who sang a song on the Huggy Boy Show with the chorus “I’m not black, I’m not white, I’m in the middle, I’m just right. Que viva, viva La Raza!” My wife thinks it was the theme song to the Huggy Boy Show. I remember hearing it a lot on that show.

I also would like to see old reruns of the Huggy Boy Show. Anyone out there with old tapes?

As ken mc pointed out the location should change to East Los Angeles area to go along with the other theatres nearby on Whittier Bloulevard. And the added aka Teatro Boulevard.

Ya you tell em tony, be there too at a lot of dance shows got my friends in to.it was on tv i think eddie is still around some where realy nice guy had my own club about 20 girls and guys we show up for all the dances from E.l.A, to El monte to hollywood exc. i had my first car then was 16 yrs old 56 chevy o what a night id pick up my buddys and weed have a ball and i got my friend a job at the montebello ball room new the owner lil old lady even give us a free beer lol .. Two bandits yesterday robbed the Boulevard Theater at 4549 Whittier Boulevard, of $270 and fled on foot. Cashier Elsie Lovato, 21, told police that the men asked for two tickets and then produced guns.

my buddie and i used to sweep and mop the Montebello ballroom and come saturday night we would get the royal treatment free entry and beer, what more can a 16 yr. old ask for lol and the girls wow so many like the precious Marvelettes etc. Eddie torres had the best entertainment for us. in the previous note above im refering to Johnson’s market on whittier blvd. Remember Kurley’s clothing store,if you had a shirt from there you were a pimp! and across the street was Henry’s shoes for the Suedes!the Kennedy Hall also had the greatest dances back in the late 60’s and early 70’s right on Atlantic. any questions feel free to ask!
