The Ro-Na Theatre was open by 1950. It was closed for many years and in the mid-2000’s a program of renovation & restoration began. It reopened in May 2015.

Unfortunately, the Google camera car didn’t drive along 3rd Street in Ironton, so the the only street views of the Ro-Na that are available are either from Washington Street, across a parking lot, or from 2nd Street, showing the back of the building. There are loads of photos of the theater on the web, though, easily found with an image search on Ro-Na Ironton Ohio.
I worked at the Ro-Na in ‘69-'70 and while it had lost much of the gleam of its glory days, it retained a hint of grudging deco class. Murals of bridge and riverfront factory scenes flanked the screen and gave identity to the movie house as being part of a once-thriving steel town.
Google’s camera car has returned to Ironton since my earlier comment, and there are now views of 3rd Street, so our Street View can be reset closer to the theater.
I was reminded today that a year has passed since the Ro-Na’s grand re-opening. The people of Ironton, Ohio are to be commended for their support of the theater’s restoration and return as a shining center for the arts in that city. While it has been long since I’ve visited there, I still feel connected to the town where I grew up and the places that made it special.
