The original Vivian Branch of the Shreve Memorial Library was originally housed in a room above the theater. It moved in 1939 around the time the theater was renovated.
Theatre was located on West Front Street.
Based on very little, this was likely known as the Vivian Theatre bought by C.M. Solley in the Fall of 1925 who renamed it the Solley Theatre, He branded it as the “Home of Good, Clean Pictures.” Not long after being sued for a copyright violation, he sold it in 1927 and it was wired for sound as the Movie Theatre. It was refurbished twice becoming the Ritz Theatre. Its final refresh was by operator O.L. Kirkland in March of 1939 who gave it a modern front, new cooling system and new sound system.
Yes, it is burned, don’t know when it burned. It still stands though. It does not appear to have been a grand theater. simple brick building, boarded up, marquee is just the framework. Interior is burned, seats are rotted and was filled with water years ago. Yet given the drought, it may be dry now.
This one sure didn’t last long.Wonder if it burnt.
